EthSwitch is the national payment switch of Ethiopia, a share company set up in 2011 and owned by the country’s banks. It runs the shared systems that let customers of one bank use the ATMs and payment services of another, and it has made ATMs interoperable across all banks since 2016. It is now extending that to card terminals, QR code payments and other digital payment platforms.
