Ethiopia earned USD 489.7 million from flower exports in the 2024/25 fiscal year (July 2024 to June 2025), up 4.2 percent from USD 469.9 million the year before, according to the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE). Flowers remained one of the country’s main exports, but their share of total export earnings fell to 5.9 percent from 12.4 percent, because gold and coffee earnings grew much faster.

What the numbers show
The 2024/25 gain came from volume. Export volume rose 4.5 percent while the average price slipped 0.3 percent, according to the NBE. Earnings have not yet returned to the 2022/23 level of USD 567.8 million.
The NBE’s annual volume series shows flower exports of about 94,000 to 114,000 tonnes a year over the past six years, with the high in 2021/22.
Other figures you may see
The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association, the industry body, reported USD 564.89 million in horticulture exports for 2024/25. That figure is larger because it also covers cuttings, fruits, vegetables and herbs, and it is not an official government statistic.
Why we do not rank flower exporters
Neither the NBE, the Ethiopian Customs Commission nor the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration publishes flower export earnings by farm or company. Many farms also belong to larger groups, so a reliable ranking would need figures by legal company. If an official source releases them, we will add a ranked list.
How we built this profile
Official figures come from the National Bank of Ethiopia’s Annual Report 2024/25, which draws on Ethiopian Customs Commission data. The NBE marks its 2024/25 balance of payments data as preliminary, so figures may be revised. Values are in US dollars and are not adjusted for inflation.
